Gauteng Health MEC Gwen Ramokgopa has shut down another unlicensed NGO that took care of psychiatric patients who were moved from Life Esidimeni Hospital.
The department has closed seven NGOs out the 27 found operating unlawfully by the Health Ombudsman.
55 mentally ill patients have been transferred to Solomon Stix Morewa Memorial Hospital in Johannesburg, and 763 mentally ill patients are still being housed at unlicensed facilities.
Ramokgopa says they are supporting the unlicensed NGOs to ensure that patients are taken care of until the department finds suitable facilities.
