But does it work?

Yes, we can! Fight back! Do these political campaigns work?

It’s a widely held opinion that the Democratic Alliance under Tony Leon’s 1999 “Fight Back” campaign was an unmitigated disaster.

On the other hand, we all know what “Yes, we can!” did for Barack Obama.

In the light of Hillary Clinton throwing her hat into the ring for next year’s US election, we play a clip from her campaign and ask Branding and Advertising Expert Andy Rice to decide whether it works or not.

Listen to the audio (scroll down to the bottom) for the clip as well as the discussion on political campaigns; the ones that work and those that fail.

Even the most brilliant advertising won’t convince a staunch Republican to vote for a Democrat or the other way around. These ads target the six percent who are swing voters.

It’s more effective to persuade people to go out to vote than to get people to vote for you.

The temptation is to make extraordinary promises; but it’s easier for politicians than for brands.
