Fedusa wants some SOE directors declared delinquent

The Federation of Unions of South Africa (Fedusa) says it will go ahead with its campaign to have directors of some state-owned entities declared delinquent.

There has been mounting criticism over the management of SOEs like the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (Prasa) and Eskom which have seen its executive boards come under fire for alleged mismanagement.

On Thursday, Former Prasa board chairperson Popo Molefe said he will seek legal action over a decision by Transport Minister Dipuo Peter’s to dissolve the parastatal’s board.

There is no uniformity in terms of standards that must be applied in these state-owned enterprises.

Dennis George, General Secretary of Fedusa

Most of the people that go into these state-owned enterprises go with the purpose of enriching themselves

Dennis George, General Secretary of Fedusa

The federation and our unions should approach our courts to have people like that being declared as delinquent directors

Dennis George, General Secretary of Fedusa

Companies with worker directives actually outperform companies where they don’t have worker directives, so we think that that could also boost the improvement of cooperate governance in South Africa and strengthen the voice of working people in this country.

Dennis George, General Secretary of Fedusa
