In the same way you often see things that you don't see. This is because the brain doesn't work in isolation. It doesn't have just a seeing system and a hearing system. Everything is integrated.

When you mishear lyrics of songs, you are also integrating other information; your current conscious state, how you feel at the time, your own interpretation because of your culture, upbringing, surroundings and so on.
