[WATCH] Cape Town Cycle Tour says safety of cyclists paramount

Cape Town Cycle Tour's press conference following the decision to cancel the event due to high winds at 6.38am on Sunday morning insist cyclists safety is parmaount.

Wind speeds were higher than predicted yesterday. This in conjunction with fires near the route and risk of protest action all contributed to the decision, say organisers.

The organisers say the City's executive safety and security director, Richard Bosman and the mayor's office were a great help.

There has been an outpouring of offers to assist those in need affected by the fires in Imizamo Yethu near Hout Bay on Saturday.

Good from the cycle tour are being distributed to those in the fire-affected areas as well.

Drop off any goods at Thula Thula Hout Bay.
