Molefe approaches court to rule on Prasa board dismissal

Former Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (Prasa) board chairperson, Popo Molefe, says they will be filing papers to the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria to stop Transport Minister Dipuo Peters from appointing a new board for the parastatal on Monday.

Molefe says Peters has failed to respond to a letter submitted by the former Prasa board members about why they were dismissed.

The dismissal followed clashes between board members and former acting CEO Collins Letsoalo after he was dismissed by the board.

The board axed Letsoalo saying he broke the company policy by demanding a 350% salary increase.

Molefe says the case will heard in court on Thursday.

We think that minister did not follow procedure, and there is no rational basis to dismiss the board at the time when the board is dealing with matters that are in the interest of the public.

Popo Molefe, axed Prasa board chairperson

The dissolution of the board will prejudice the work of the company. We still don't understand why the board was dissolved in the rush like this.

Molefe says he has raised several matters with the Hawks to investigate.

He says the axed board may not be able to pursue cases that are already before the court.

This delays a case that is already far behind, where no sufficient work was done by agencies who are supposed to do their work in this connection.

Popo Molefe, axed Prasa board chairperson

We are of the view that the board must be put back because there is no rush and removal basis of that board.
