Transport Minister didn't approve Prasa CEO recommended by board - Molefe

Former Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (Prasa) board chairperson, Popo Molefe, says it is not true that the previous board used unlawful means to investigate alleged irregularities and corruption at the parastatal.

Transport Minister Dipuo Peters has appointed a new Prasa board following the sacking of the previous board chaired by Molefe.

In the middle of all the work we are doing, including the process of routing corruption, we suddenly have the board dissolved.

Popo Molefe, axed Prasa board chairperson

We advertised, shortlisted. We interviewed. We identified the appropriate CEO for Prasa. But we were required by the board charter to consult with the minister.

But she kept delaying saying she needs to consult, in the end there was no appointment.

Letsoalo was not in the picture. She brought him in to say she thinks in the interim we should be appointing an acting CEO, which after a long debate we agreed to.
