Imizamo Yethu residents sift through debris and begin to rebuild homes

Displaced residents in Mandela Park in Imizamo Yethu have begun rebuilding their homes, after a devastating fire at the weekend.

Over 3000 shacks have been destroyed.

City of Cape Town officials have been compiling a register with details of residents affected by the blaze.

Eyewitness News reporter Kevin Brandt says dozens of displaced residents have spent the day sifting through debris, looking for material that could be reused to rebuild their homes.

A specific group of people are already erecting theirs wooded structures, they are fixing corrugated iron sheets to that in the process of rebuilding their homes

Residents say they cannot wait on the city to provide the necessary shelter.
