Does technology capable of transferring knowledge to your brain really exist?

A Wits professor believes reports on a ‘matrix-style’ technology capable of transferring knowledge to your brain may be a ‘bit exaggerated’.

Last year HRL Laboratories in California released a statement claiming that it had “discovered that low-current electrical brain stimulation can modulate the learning of complex real-world skills”.

It added that “subjects who received brain stimulation via electrode-embedded head caps improved their piloting abilities.”

Head of Neurology at Wits Medical School, Professor Girish Modi says some of the research concepts are understandable but could do with better explaining.

When you in that flight simulator, you actually feel like you are flying, its like these kids playing PlayStation or Xbox 2.

We have now discovered that kids who play a lot of PlayStation become very good high tech surgeons because of the skill on their hand.

There is a process of learning through technology but the concept that you are going to transfer information through a medium into your brain cells, I think it exaggerated, the reports are going into a sci-fi area.
