Days after the devastating Hout Bay Fire in Imizamo Yethu, the community has come out in full force to help the 15 000 people who have been displaced.

Cape Talk’s Abongile Nzelenzele visited the Mandela Park informal settlement on Tuesday after the devastating Hout Bay fire.

Displaced residents have continued with the rebuilding of their homes.

Over 2 000 people were left homeless after a fire destroyed at least 650 structures.

Already I had built up an image in my mind of what I was going to see until you are here on the ground and what you see you cannot explain.

Thula Thula’s Casey Dolan says relief efforts are still underway with communities and businesses assisting, but more is needed.

Water is a constant effort because everybody needs it on a daily basis and we don’t have. So that’s a huge thing.

They were calling out for sanitary wear in a really big way, toiletries, soaps, toothbrushes, toothpaste, baby wipes and nappies.

They were asking for children’s shoes and baby clothes all those necessities are a dire need.
