Speedy Tap-N-Go 'pinless' card may hike transaction limit

Consumers have raised concerns regarding the safety of the Tap-N-Go system which has been adopted by many retailers and financial institutions in South Africa.

Tap-N-Go allows consumers to pay faster for purchases under R200 as they don’t have to hand their card over to swipe, dip or enter their PIN.

Payments Association of SA (Pasa) CEO, Walter Volker, says the system is three times faster than the normal dip transaction.

We are thinking to increase it to R500 to environments for transport, like the Gautrain etc.

Volker says consumers need to inform their bank immediately if they lose their card.
