DA's interim WC leader says he will address Helen Zille on her colonial tweet

Interim Western Cape leader for the Democratic Alliance Bonginkosi Madikizela says he disagrees with comments made by Premiere Helen Zille in a tweet on Thursday morning.

Zille sparked outrage when she tweeted: "Getting onto an aeroplane now and won't get onto the wi-fi so that I can cut off those who think EVERY aspect of colonial legacy was bad".

She is now facing disciplinary charges.

Evading a question about whether or not she should be recalled as premier, Madikizela repeated Maimane’s sentiments on a disciplinary process that will take its course.

I have no comment on that, it’s not for me to determine when her time has passed or not what I know is that Helen is our premiere and she is our premiere until 2019.

Madikizela admits Zille's comment has affected campaigning efforts.

Instead of focusing on the job at hand you get side tracked by people who are asking you something that is completely unrelated. It was asked by one or two people.

It is not an issue that was raised by many people but I do know it is in the public domain and it is in a way affecting the work we are doing.

Madikizela says he will soon have a word with Zille as her statement did not ‘sit well' with him.
