DA will have to sack Zille - analyst

It is still unclear what action the Democratic Alliance (DA) will take against Western Cape Premier Helen Zille for her colonial tweet.

DA leader Mmusi Maimane described Zille's tweet as "defensible and unacceptable" and said he has referred it for investigation.

The former DA leader said colonialism was not only negative on Thursday morning on social media. She apologised after.

Political analyst, Ralph Mathekga, says the DA needs to sack Zille.

They have to actually ask her to leave office. I don't think she is still fit to lead the party as premier in the province.

Ralph Mathekga, political analyst

It is going to be very difficult for Helen Zille to continue on the leadership position. She is exposing the DA very unnecessarily.

Ralph Mathekga, political analyst

They have to take measures against her, just like they did with some of the people [within the DA] who have spread those sentiments.
