All systems go for the Cape Town Carnival (with an ocean vibe)

The first annual Cape Town Carnival happened on Long Street, Cape Town, in 2010. Since then, the carnival has attracted over 50 000 people.

This year's carnival promises to be fantastic says Jay Douwes, CEO, Cape Town Carnival.

Douwes says finishing touches are being added to a variety of colourful boats that will be used on Saturday.

The 2017 Cape Town Carnival theme is AMAZA! ~ Ocean Odyssey. Fish, octopus, penguins, ships and submarines will be on site as part of raising awareness about the ocean and sea life.

Carnival goers can be expected to be treated a variety of entertainment. This includes a group from the Rio Carnival, a musician from New York and local firefighters who will be showcasing their dancing skills.

Entrance to the family-friendly festival is free.

The official parade procession gets underway at 7pm. Four hundred security guards will be on site.

Be there at 3pm and experience the spirit of Cape Town.
