Dlamini instructed to report to Concourt with detailed Sassa contract plan

Sassa and The Social Development Department will now have to file an affidavit every three months with a detailed plan to ensure the payment of social grants, when the extension of a suspension on an invalid contract with Cash Paymaster Service (CPS) ends next year.

The Constitutional Court has ruled that CPS will continue to distribute grants until another entity can do so.

Karima Brown takes a further look at the matter as well as the legal imperatives surrounding Friday's judgment, as well as President Jacob Zuma's response to the debacle.

What the court effectively also said is that the open bidding process must resume, which takes us right up to the Financier Minister Pravin Gordhan and what he said when he appeared before the public’s accounts committee Scopa saying that the treasury supports an open bid process.

The question must then be asked, was the tender designed in such a way that it would only benefit one particular company?
