DTI slams DA claims of funding Gordhan attacks

Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) director-general, Lionel October, says the DA is misinformed in its claims that it is funding a political campaign against Finance Minister, Pravin Gordhan.

This follows a revelation that the DTI has given the Black Business Council over a three year period.

October says the DTI has been funding black business organisations for the past 15 years and "this is not a new development".

The current issue going on around funding is not relevant one for the DTI.

Lionel October, DTI director-general

As DTI we are responsible for building strong business formation in the country.

October says they started funding the Black Business Council (BBC) when it was formed six years ago after they were approached by Patrice Motsepe when he was still the chairperson.

He added that while its politics may be changing, DTI cannot interfere.
