#40DaysWithoutShoes: Campaigners go barefoot for pupils walking long distances

Sicelo Mbonani is one of many activists who have pledged to go barefoot for 40 days in an effort to raise awareness around the plight of children forced to walk long distances to school without shoes.

The #40DayWithoutShoes Campaign kicked off on 2 March.

The aim is to have people donate shoes at various drop off points around Gauteng until the end of the campaign.

Mbonani was elected our Lead SA Hero for August 2016.

The response has been not as expected but very good. Ideally we want each and every foot soldier to get a pair of shoes so that we at least have 1,000 shoes. We are not halfway but we are hoping for more by month end.
