Sale of Tafelberg gets green-light from Cape Town City

Bonginkosi Madikizela, MEC of Human Settlements in the Western Cape says he agrees with Cabinet's decision to ahead with the sale of the site, in the Sea Point area.

Madikizela says government is committed to inner-city development which influenced the decision of the sale.

He says it important to consider a number of issues, such as the importance of using land in the inner-city to bridge the socio-economic divide.

The second aspect is to take into account the fiscal crisis, to strike a balance between using the land in the inner-city for development and making sure revenue is raised.

The issue is not just about social housing the issue is about mixed development.

Bonginkosi Madikizela, MEC of Human Settlements in the Western Cape

Madikizela adds we cannot be fixated on the sale of Tafelberg but on the city's plans to develop inner-city development.
