OPINION: Reflecting on the war on women and children's bodies

A woman has shared her horrifying four hour rape ordeal while she was in a taxi with her 10-year-old son. Another rape victim has come forward warning female taxi commuters to be cautious of a Toyota Quantum taxi with only men in it.

Redi Tlhabi expressed her concerns at the ease with which people carry vicious attacks such as rape in South Africa. She says what worries her the most is the lack of outrage from society. Redi wonders where the same outrage against xenophobia is compared to that of sexual violence.

I lament the absence of outrage on sexual violence and the country just coming to a standstill.

Redi Tlhabi, host of the Afternoon Drive

Redi questions the levels of brutality, the levels at which perpetrators are willing to sink. She emphasizes that rape isn't about the woman is wearing because babies and older woman get raped too. It's about power and violence, says Redi. Is this the fate of women in South Africa?

I'm near despair.

Redi Tlhabi, host of the Afternoon Drive

Listen to Redi and listeners share what they think contributes to the high levels of rape:
