Sars sitting on R20 billion in VAT refunds

Taxpayers have claimed that they are not being paid their refunds timeously. Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan's admission that Sars has R20 billion in VAT (Value Added Tax) refunds has given credence to these claims.

CEO of the Office of the Tax Ombudsman Advocate Eric Mkhawane explains what will happen now to pay out outstanding claims.

In January this year amendments came into effect that will allow us to initiate an investigation into claims. This will be done on a case by case basis.
