Intervention with Sars not necessary, says Gordhan

Speaking at the meeting, Finance Minister, Pravin Gordhan, said that populism is a serious problem in South Africa, while transformation needs to be seen in the context of growth and vice versa. Gordhan admitted that his relationship with Sars head, Tom Moyane, has been strained but said there was no need for President Zuma to intervene.

Eyewitness News reporter, Mia Lindeque, says the Finance Minister said the country can no longer depend on superficial changes and needs to be less dependent on the mining sector for economic growth. Gordhan also addressed the business sector saying it needs to play an important role.

He says as a country we need to think out of the box because the country is changing.

Gordhan also commented on students needing exposure to gain work experience and business needing to assist in this process. Gordhan also addressed rumours of him allegedly receiving R11 million from a specific pension fund from military veterans.
