Nonhlanhla Skosana, Community Education Mobilisation Manager at Sonke Gender Justice says it is sad that women in South Africa are still unsafe in public spaces.
Sonke Gender justice has worked with South African National Taxi Council (Santaco) in our 'Safe Ride Campaign'— Nonhlanhla Skosana, Community Education Mobilisation Manager at Sonke Gender Justice
She says the campaign seeks to engage taxi drivers to take a stand in sexual violence matters and harassment of women in taxis or taxi ranks. She says now is the opportunity for taxi drivers to come forward with information of the men accused of rape.
My view is that somebody knows these people. Somebody, somewhere is sitting with information we need so these women could at least have closure.— Nonhlanhla Skosana - Community Education Mobilisation Manager at Sonke Gender Justice
Skosana also comments on the low numbers in prosecuting sexual offenders, the underlying causes of low reporting rates of rape cases and the shortage of rape centres.
