Shakespeare may be phased out of SA school curriculum

Prof Chris Thurman, Professor, English department at Wits University, says William Shakespeare no longer has relevance for South African children.

He says there are already learners who don't encounter the works of Shakespeare in the formal high school curriculum.

He says he is not opposed to Shakespeare falling off the curriculum if it means replacing his work with more accessible South African and world literature writers.
