Ziyanda Ngcobo, Eye Witness News reporter, says Finance Minister, Pravin Gordhan cited his intentions to return early from his trip to an investor roadshow.

We also have confirmation now that by the 24th of March, Naledi Pandor had already been appointed finance minister

Ngcobo says Pandor's appointment as acting finance minister suggests that President Jacob Zuma knew that Gordhan would be out of the country.

The exact reason Gordhan and his deputy, Mcebisi Jonas were instructed to cut their trip short has not yet been confirmed.
