Former Rivonia trialist and struggle icon Andrew Mlangeni says the passing of Ahmed Kathrada is a loss to South Africa.
Mlangeni, one of the last two remaining Rivonia trialists, says Kathrada fought to liberate all South Africans, across racial lines.
Kathy dedicated his entire life to the struggle for freedom and the struggle for the liberation of South Africa.— Andrew Mlangeni, former Rivonia trialist and struggle icon
Mlangeni visited the late activist in hospital two weeks ago and says he is comforted by the fact that Kathrada's suffering has come to an end.
Nature has it's own way of doing things. The family was suffering as much as Kathy was while he was sick.— Andrew Mlangeni, former Rivonia trialist and struggle icon
I think everybody is relieved that God or Allah has done their work, although its a great loss.— Andrew Mlangeni, former Rivonia trialist and struggle icon
He has urged South Africans to reflect on the great contribution Kathrada had to advancing democracy in South Africa.
According to Mlangeni, the ANC must take note of Kathrada's humility and integrity, while carrying on his legacy and love for the country.
We should learn from Kathy and dedicate ourselves to South Africa. We must stop corruption - today we have many people in the organisation who are corrupt and bringing us backwards.— Andrew Mlangeni, former Rivonia trialist and struggle icon
Mlangeni sent his condolences to Kathrada's family and political affiliates.
