Rusty weapons cache in Randburg sent for ballistics testing

Police from the Crimes Against the State unit have discovered one suicide vest, hand grenades and explosives from a storeroom in the basement of a building in Randburg.

Weapons include 15 pistols, 11 revolvers and four hand grenades and 7 AK47's.

Police spokesperson, Captain Mavela Masondo, says workers renovating the building saw a bag with explosives, and phoned the police.

Masondo explains that the building is currently used for business and residence.

We are questioning the previous owner of that shop and owner of the building must give us information... manager and caretaker of the building. But no one has come forward to claim the responsibility.

Captain Mavela Masondo, Police spokesperson

Most of the weapons had rust, so we are not sure if they were there for a long time, or they have been used recently.
