Fast food outlets insist their chicken is 100% local

There's been an outcry from South African consumers regarding rampant dumping of chicken on our shores from European Union countries.

Some fast food outlets have been accused of buying the cheap chicken pieces from overseas and not supporting local markets.

CapeTalk listeners want to know where their favourite fast food outlets are sourcing their chicken.

Chantal Sombonos, Managing Director of Chicken Licken says their supply chain is 100% South African and only purchase their chicken from Rainbow Chicken.

We need to keep everything as local as possible to promote growth within our country ... the government needs to take a stricter stand with regards to imports coming into this country.

Thabisa Mkhwanazi, Public Affairs Director at KFC Africa says their 850 outlets across the country source their chicken locally purchasing from a combination of local suppliers.

The moment we import our chicken from the standard perspective it wouldn't make sense and secondly it will shutdown the local industry...
