Gordhan gets standing ovation amid Cabinet reshuffle speculations
Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan has received a standing ovation from his fellow African National Congress (ANC) comrades and other dignitaries attending the funeral of the late struggle veteran Ahmed Kathrada.
Gordhan remains under a cloud as reports suggest President Jacob Zuma plans to axe him.
The finance minister wiped tears when the Ahmed Kathrada Foundation director, Neeshan Balton, told him he stands for principles that Kathrada valued.
The Presidency postponed the start of today’s Cabinet meeting to later this afternoon so as to enable Cabinet members to attend the funeral of Kathrada.
EWN's Clement Manyathela, reports that the finance minister said he has not met with the President since he ordered him to come back home and cancel a roadshow in London.
Gordhan was at Luthuli House for a meeting on Tuesday.
