Standard Bank asks court to block Zuma and Cabinet from Gupta-banks saga

29 March 2017 5:12 PM
Standard Bank asked court to rule that entire executive not be permitted to intervene in its dispute with the Gupta companies.

A full bench of judges heard the application by Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan to have it declared that he not be authorised to intervene in the Guptas fight with the banks.

The High Court in Pretoria heard how Standard Bank supports Gordhan in his application, but has gone further and asked the court to rule that the entire executive not be permitted to intervene in its dispute with the Gupta companies.

Standard Bank want the entire executive, which includes the Cabinet and President Zuma, to be prohibited in interfering anyway with regards to the Gupta-owned companies.

Barry Bateman, EWN reporter

Judges questioned why Standard Bank did not cite the executive in the declaratory order, EWN's Barry Bateman reports.

Bateman says the judges are hearing summary arguments and judgment will likely be reserved.
