Basson says Zuma's recent actions are about survival and power.

Basson says it is imperative to remember that the President holds the sole powers appoint and fire ministers. He says the information that emerged on Tuesday afternoon suggests that the African National Congress' (ANC) top six opposed Zuma's decision to replace Gordhan.
Basson adds that Zuma needs the balance of power to fulfill his mission of survival, which also crucial ahead of the ANC's national conference in December.
Basson says he feels Jacob Zuma is probably at the lowest point of his career as ANC president and is no longer sure of his unanimous support in the party.
