Gordhan rubbishes intelligence report and is applauded by Treasury staff

Recently axed Finance Minister, Pravin Gordhan, held a media briefing at the Treasury offices in Tshwane on Friday.

Gordhan addressed Treasury staff alongside his colleague and outgoing Deputy Finance Minister, Mcebisi Jonas.

Jonas was also removed from his position following President Jacob Zuma's much criticized Cabinet reshuffle.

EWN reporter, Barry Bateman attended the briefing and says the response the pair received from the staff at Treasury is enough to gauge the impact they had in their department.

To lose that, that kind of leadership that was respected is certainly very worrying.

Bateman says Gordhan will be meeting with the newly appointed Finance Minister, Malusi Gigaba. Gigaba is the former Home Affairs Minister.

Gordhan referred to the so-called intelligence report that prompted his dismissal as 'nonsense'.

It's just impossible that two individuals would be in a position to undermine the state in the way it is being alleged in this particular report.
