Treasury director general resigns

National Treasury has confirmed that director general Lungisa Fuzile has resigned.

According to the Treasury statement, Fuzile is now in talks with Finance Minister Malusi Gigaba to ensure smooth transition.

Fuzile will leave office on the 15th of May.

Econometrix chief economist, Azar Jammine, says Fuzile's resignations will raise further suspicions of the capture of National Treasury.

It's quite possible that speculative comments about Brian Molefe taking over as DG of Treasury are valid.

Molefe would be capable of taking that job from a professional point of view. He does have the experience.

But he would remain tainted with the image of state capture.
