'Mantashe not so vigorous in dealing with Zuma (as he was to Andile Lungisa)'

6 April 2017 8:19 AM

Political analyst Lukhona Mnguni says Gwede Mantashe has failed to stand up for conference resolution broken by the President.

Political analyst, Lukhona Mnguni, says African National Congress (ANC) secretary, Gwede Mantashe, has humiliated himself by changing his initial statement regarding the Cabinet reshuffle.

Mnguni says mixed messages from the secretary general suggests that he is a "coward and spineless leader".

What makes people still feel Zuma appeals to them is because he is bold and courageous. He means what he says and he does what he means.

People like Gwede Mantashe don't inspire confidence in people that they are leaders inside the ANC who are willing to go the full length of courage and be sacrificial, to an extent say if it works out that we oppose the President it will be okay, and if it doesn't work out, we would have sacrificed ourselves to try and save the ANC.

Last month Mantashe criticised Andile Lungisa after he was appointed as the Nelson Mandela Bay chairperson when he was serving in the ANC provincial executive committee (PEC).

The top six ordered Lungisa to resign saying the conference resolution of the ANC does not allow members to stand for election to a structure lower than they serve.

Yesterday Mantashe said the conference resolution does not allow the President to reshuffle Cabinet without consulting party leadership.

However, he did not answer what action will be taken against President Jacob Zuma as he did not consult the party when reshuffling his Cabinet last week.

But we don't see the same time of vigor in dealing with the President, and that sends a message of a leader that is a coward and spineless.
