Pepsi pulls Kendall Jenner ad, slammed for being out of touch with generation

Pepsi has apologised for a new commercial featuring model and reality TV star, Kendall Jenner, after the company faced a backlash for using the imagery of protest movements.

Social media and activists pointed out that the image of Jenner approaching the police copied the iconic photograph of Leshia Evans, an 18-year-old black woman, who stood tall in the face of heavily armed police during a #BlackLivesMatter protest against police violence in 2016.

Watch the commercial below:

Founder of Brand Leadership Group, Thebe Ikalafeng, says the advert showed that Pepsi is out of touch with the generation it serves.

A brand needs to understand its lane.
