Dear John Maytham...

Afternoon Drive host, John Maytham received an email from a listener, who seemingly had a bone to pick about campaigning in areas outside of townships.

This is how the email from listener Linton reads:

My personal observations on activities mainly planned in urban centres away from the townships.

I support the rights of individuals and groups to become activists and citizens, this is what we fought for.

However, until these campaigns can get out of the comfort of leafy suburbs, off mobile devices and social media, out of cars and into the townships to mobilise towards the so-called popular movement, it will always be my contention that this essentially remains a minority middle to upper middle class movement clamouring for regime change...

John Maytham responds:

Remember Cosatu? It's hardly true to say that Cosatu is a minority, middle to upper middle-class movement and they care clamouring for regime change. I'm not sure that your description of this movement across the country is accurate.

John Maytham, Afternoon Drive host
