ANCYL must apologise to comrade Pravin - Sihle Zikalala

Chairperson of the African National Congress (ANC) in KwaZulu Natal, Sihle Zikalala, says it is worrying that members are using memorial services and the funeral of the late struggle stalwart, Ahmed Kathrada, to vent their feelings around President Jacob Zuma's recent Cabinet reshuffle.

On Sunday the KZN ANC Youth League (ANCYL) booed former Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan as he entered the hall to attend the Kathrada memorial service in Durban.

As Gordhan was speaking the ANCYL sang in Zulu: "Wenzeni uZuma? Awuphendule" meaning "What did Zuma do? Tell us."

ANC Treasury Zweli Mkhize was also heckled by the ANCYL when he tried to restore calm.

What happened yesterday by the youth league and some members who were saying 'hands off the Treasury' carrying placards. There were two sets of placards - those who support and don't. We were coming out strongly to say all those things are wrong. We can't vent our feelings and anger in public especially using memorials and funerals.

Sihle Zikalala, chairperson of the ANC in KZN

Zikalala says the ANCYL violated the Constitution of the party and should apologise to Gordhan.
