Celebrations for President Zuma's 75th birthday are underway

On this day, seventy-five years ago President Jacob Zuma was born. The African National Congress (ANC) is holding birthday celebrations for the president in Kliptown, Soweto on Wednesday afternoon.

EWN reporter, Clement Manyathela is at the celebrations. Manyathela says people and members of the ANC from Mpumalanga, the North West and various other provinces are expected to show up at the celebrations.

He says the Minister of Water and Sanitation‚ Nomvula Mokonyane and Deputy Secretary General of the ANC, Jessie Duarte were in attendance.

I think what will be interesting today is which of the leaders of the ANC are going to attend. Will treasurer general, Zweli Mkhize, the secretary general, Gwede Mantashe and even the deputy president, Cyril Ramaphosa attend this gathering?

Clement Manyathela, EWN Reporter

Manyathela says the ANC Youth League released a poster earlier, communicating President Zuma's birthday celebrations to counter the anti-Zuma marches by opposition parties happening today the Union Buildings. He adds the ANC then confirmed the birthday celebrations earlier this week.

Zuma is expected to arrive at the event later, says Manyathela.

Here are some photos from the event:

The ANC also sent President Zuma revolutionary wishes for his big day.
