ANC leaders use Cadres Assembly to slam anti-Zuma marches

National and provincial ANC leaders assembled in the Free State in what was meant to be a discussion about the National Working Committee's (NWC) decision to support President Jacob Zuma.

This comes after ANC Secretary General Gwede Mantashe promised that the party’s NWC would send leaders to provinces to explain the body’s decision to back Zuma after his Cabinet reshuffle.

The Cadres Assembly took place in Sasolburg, reports EWN's Clement Manyathela.

However, Manyathela says that very few ANC leaders stuck to the agenda, aside from Science and Technology Minister Naledi Pandor.

Mineral Resources Minister Mosebenzi Zwane used the platform to criticise the notion of state capture and slam the anti-Zuma marches which took place over the past week.

Zwane started stressing his support and spoke out against the marches against Zuma. He said white people are targeting the President because he's championing radical economic transformation.

Social Development Minister Bathabile Dlamini also deviated from the programme to campaign for ANC Women's League President Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma amid the party's succession race.

Dlamini-Zuma added her voice to the condemnation of the nationwide anti-Zuma marches, Manyathela explains.
