Limited budget to fix damaged roads - JRA

The MD of Johannesburg Roads Agency Dr Sean Phillips says the City doesn't have enough budget to fix roads that are in a bad state due to heavy rains.

He says they have a budget of R1.4 million which they will prioritise on the roads that are crucial for the economy and roads that take heavy traffic.

About 25% of our roads require reconstruction... and another 25% needs to be resurfaced.

Dr Sean Phillips, MD of Johannesburg Roads Agency

The City will look at increasing its revenue in order to meet the demand and catch up on the backlog, says Phillips.

He says the City has adjusted the available budget to hire more people to help fix the damaged roads more quickly.

Potholes are dangerous so we need to fix them as much as possible.
