Newly appointed Police Minister Fikile Mbalula met with Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) head Robert McBride to discuss the pressing issues facing policing.
African Policing Civilian Oversight Forum (APCOF) Director Sean Tait says the meeting will tackle the following:
- briefing Mbalula on the current state of affairs in the policing ministry
- relationship building between the ministry and police watchdog
- the proposed amendments to the Ipid Act calling for greater independence of the institution
Tait also weighed in on the dismissal of disgraced Hawks boss Berning Ntlemeza and Mbalula's decision to address the cost of suspended police offers.
