How and when did you start running?
I have been running for about five years now but an injury forced me to take a year-long break until early this year.
How do you keep motivated?
I'm surrounded by people who also run; my wife, siblings, friends and colleagues. So, it's easy to be motivated.
It’s important to plan properly, how do you incorporate training times in your busy schedule, considering work and family life?
That is extremely difficult, especially because we have a 14-month-old and other children. I have a radio show that requires me to be up at 2:30 am and other work related commitments. But, you just have to find time. You do your best. It is possible.
Any specific eating plan?
Nothing specific, but I also always try to eat well. Good food and no junk food.
What do you find most challenging about running?
For someone like me who started running late in my thirties, I find it is really challenging. Everything about it.
Is this your first marathon?
No. I've done a couple of them including two Soweto marathons.
Three tips for listeners wanting to start running?
Choose people who are either patient or also starters. People who will not push too hard at the begging.
Always remember that you are competing with yourself. Don't worry about the pack.
Support your training with healthy choices, such as good food and regular checks with your doctor.
Are you nervous for the marathon?
Of course I am.
Any runners you admire locally or internationally?
It has got to be David Gatebe, 2016 Comrades Marathon winner - a former petrol attendant who did not only break the record but at the end of the race still had enough in the tank to do several push ups!! If that's no inspiration, I don't know what is!
