Business in Africa: Manufacturing

Refilwe Moloto, Founder and Principal Advisor, Ambassador Advisory continues her weekly analysis of the McKinsey's 2016 Lions II on the Move report.

The report mentioned, wholesale and retail, food and agri-processing, health care, financial services, light manufacturing, and construction as the six sectors set to grow in Africa.

This week, Moloto interrogates the manufacturing sector.

Currently we are heavy importers of manufactured goods compared to Latin American and East Asian countries who have far better regional participation.

Moloto says over the last decade, East Africa is taking the lead in the manufacturing sector.

Where policy has been followed through on and an enabling environment has been created, you're seeing that those are the ones who are taking the charge in manufacturing.
