Ntlemeza flouts instructions not to report for duty, arrives at Hawks HQ

Despite the instruction by Minister of Police Fikile Mbalula not to report for duty, former Hawks boss Berning Ntlemeza arrived at the unit's headquarters in Pretoria on Monday morning.

EWN reporter Barry Bateman says Ntlemeza entered the Hawks offices through the back entrance. He was accompanied by his lawyer Comfort Ngidi ready to challenge anyone who is going to prevent him from entering the premises.

Ntlemeza was fired by Mbalula following a court order that his appointment was unlawful and that he is not fit and proper to hold office.

According to Bateman, Minister Mbalula will be arriving at the Hawks office to address the matter with Ntlemeza at 1pm. The media has been invited to a briefing later in the afternoon.

Mbalula appointed Lieutenant-General Yolisa Matakata as acting head of the Hawks after the axing of Ntlemeza.
