#OpenLine: Who in the ANC has public trust to run the country?

Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa has spoken out strongly against state capture allegations, corruption and patronage within the African National Congress.

Speaking at the Chris Hani memorial lecture in Uitenhage in the Eastern Cape, Ramaphosa said he supports the call for radical economic transformation.

The deputy president has also recently spoken out in support of radical economic transformation explaining that it should not, however, only benefit the few.

While some have praised Ramaphosa for speaking out at the right time when President Jacob Zuma's faction has weakened, some says it is a little too late for him to start his presidential campaign.

I just feel he hasn't shown courage unfortunately up to this point. Who in the ANC, outside of the people who have spoken against corruption, has public trust to run the country? I can't think of anyone outside the few people who have been loud and courageous, who are not gonna run for the job anyway.

Even Lindiwe Sisulu, I remember the time when she was defending Zuma in Parliament. She [Lindiwe Sisulu] and Cyril Ramaphosa may not be corrupt personally. The only thing to commend them is that they are not corrupt personally. Whether they will have courage to act against corruption, and business- I don't see any evidence of that.

Eusebius McKaiser said he agrees that while Ramaphosa may be better than other proposed candidate, he is not the perfect candidate to take over from Zuma.

However, some callers believe Ramaphosa is the right candidate to steer the ANC to the right direction.

I think this is very clever politicking on his behalf, and I sincerely hope he is next number one. He is clever. He is articulate. He is businessman. For my vote, the man is the right man for the job.

The ANC is a bad party. In fact it is the best party that the money can buy us. If Cyril Ramaphosa has the strength to dominate, he can end up a very good president.
