Parenting millennials: What works and when do you draw the line

The children born between the late 1980s and 20th century, known as millennials, seem to have a distinct set of traits and require different parenting than that of the previous generation.

Counselling psychologist, Jeremy Bayer, explains that millennial also depends on how people live their lives.

He describes the millennial generation as impatient, technologically savvy and more liberal.

Parents may need to listen more to these children while drawing from their own experiences when they were young and what they would have done differently.

Bayer says parents raising millennials should be more conscious of their role and engage often with their children.

Listen to your child. What are they experiencing at school?. Ask them about their relationships at school, not to say 'stay on the internet and go to bed'. You still need to talk to them.

Jeremy Bayer, counselling psychologist

Bayer says parents should not allow their children to remain behind gadgets all the time. They need to learn to communicate.

You have to adapt to the new world. We are still human beings. We still need to communicate, learn and grow as people.
