Mbalula wants to 'instill fear in criminals'

Police minister Fikile Mbalula says he will be signing off on numerous policies to enhance police effectiveness.

These include policies related to sexual crimes, detectives and the use of force.

The minister shared details on his strategic plan for his term in office, at a briefing in Pretoria on Tuesday.

He says he wants to transform the police into a community-centric and responsible service.

Eyewitness News reporter Barry Bateman was there.

He is conceding we have got problems and he wants to turn this around.

He certainly has big plans for his term of office which he says is going to require thorough implementation from police officers.
