Listen: How a housekeeper was propositioned through Gumtree ad

Fern describes what her housekeeper went through after placing an advert on classified online website Gumtree.

In an attempt to find extra housekeeping work, she ended up being propositioned by a strange man who hired her to clean his house...and wanted a 'massage' as well.

Employer Fern is livid and says it has come to light that the man may well have tried this before. She intends taking it up with the authorities. But the women does not want to take it further.

She is deeply concerned that her housekeeper ended up in a vulnerable situation alone with the man and it could have ended badly.

I am incensed. What gives people the right to think they can proposition women they don't know who are offering a perfectly legitimate service.

Fern

Take a listen to her story:

John Maytham subsequently spoke to Gumtree. The online classifieds website says they are in the process of contacting Fern and will most likely block the user.
