SAA's cabin crew embark on strike action

South African Airways (SAA) announced that the carrier may experience unavoidable delays as the SA Cabin Crew Association has served them notice to embark on strike action.

President of the South African Cabin Crew Association, Zazi Nsibanyoni-Anyiam says the cabin crew's international meal allowance - which has not been increased in the past 6 years - is no longer sufficient.

She says they are paid about $131 for their meal allowances which doesn't cover much. They are demanding an increase from $131 to 170.

We are finding it very hard to have decent meals in places like London.

Zazi Nsibanyoni-Anyiam, President of the South African Cabin Crew Association

We have not taken this decision lightly, we understand the consequences and we are saying its about time that we sit down - we are so open to negotiations.
