South African Airways (SAA) cabin crew members affiliated to the South African Cabin Crew Association (Sacca) have embarked on a strike demanding a $170 (R2 222) a day meal allowance when travelling overseas.
SAA spokesperson, Tlali Tlali, says operations have been affected with four flights cancelled, and two delayed on Wednesday morning.
The two flights are delayed are from Johannesburg to Port Elizabeth and East London. The four flights that have been cancelled are from Johannesburg to Cape Town and back.

Tlali says they have organised bigger aircraft to accommodate passengers who were supposed to fly on cancelled and delayed flights.
Sacca says members are currently receiving $131 (R1,712.85) which they say has not been increased in the last 6 years.

Tlali says the crew members compare themselves with pilots and demanding a proposal that is not affordable to the company.
We understand their concerns. We are not saying there is no merit. But, we need to look at the situation holistically, especially take into account the state of finances as far as the company is concerned.
