3 red flags over alleged Cabinet assassination plots

A few things don't add up in the alleged terror threats uncovered by the Hawks, says terror expert Jasmine Opperman.

The Hawks arrested a 23-year-old suspect for plotting to murder at least 19 Cabinet members.

It's believed the suspect is a founding member of the Anti-State Capture Death Squad Alliance (ASCDSA) and has been recruiting donors to fund assassinations.

The Hawks says their investigation led to the uncovering of another plot by a group called the Anti-White Monopoly Capitalists Regime.

Opperman, Director of the Terrorism Research and Analysis Consortium (TRAC), raised some concerns surrounding the developments based on the information currently available.

1. She says the two groups have come out of nowhere and appear to have no structure or members.

I've heard of lone wolf terrorism, I've never heard of a lone wolf coup attempt.

Jasmine Opperman, TRAC Director

2. Opperman also called in to question the likelihood that a terror group would publicly ask for funding on social media.

It does not make sense and it doesn't fit into classical coup planning.

Jasmine Opperman, TRAC Director

3. She says there appears to be a growing "conspiracy mindset" among state institutions to protect their actions and deviate criticism against President Jacob Zuma.

It's way too far-fetched to believe.
